What is High blood pressure?

According to Ayurveda,The high blood pressure is due to imbalanced "vata" and "pitta". High blood pressure also known as Rakt chap vraddhi in Ayurveda. Your heart pumps blood through the arteries at a specific pressure. But because of physical obstruction or contraction, the heart has to apply more pressure than usual to pump the same amount of blood per minute through the arteries, pushing the blood against the walls of arteries. This condition is referred to as high blood pressure.

Sometimes, high BP runs in the family. In contrast, some individuals living at high altitudes may experience a chronic high blood pressure condition due to low oxygen levels in their environment.

People prone to high blood pressure are advised to get their health checkups done at least once a month. If the blood pressure reading is higher than 120/80 mm of Hg, it is recommended to take proper measures to keep the blood pressure under control.

High blood pressure or hypertension is not fatal per se, but it can lead to several complications which increase the chances of a cardiac arrest.
